You may have dreams for your future and things you’d like to accomplish in your life. Knowing how to achieve success can be the hardest part.
Sometimes the secret to success is when passion meets purpose.
Finding the reasons behind our passion can be an important factor in achieving our goals.
Reasons to Achieve Your Goals
Our passion, combined with purpose, leads to resilience.
If we have a reason behind our goals, we will stop at nothing to achieve them.
Achieving our goals can give us a sense of purpose and provides a sense of fulfillment. We may want to better our lives, change our circumstances, or simply to have a reason to get up every day and keep going.
Most of all, the journey to achieving our goals teaches us how strong we really are.
Why We Fail to Achieve Our Goals
Simply put, we fail to achieve our dream goals because we give up.
We can have our minds set on a particular goal when we are young, but as we grow further into adulthood, we could decide we don’t want that goal for ourselves anymore.
Readjusting our goals to suit who we really are today, and who we want to be in the future, can be a way to achieve a new pathway in life - if we don’t give up.
We see successful people who have overcome the odds and become something greater than themselves, but we don’t see the journey they took to get there. They had to wake up each day and put in the work, having no idea where these dreams and goals would actually take them in the future. They invested their energy and time into relentlessly building something they believed in.
Spending our days daydreaming about the future won’t take us anywhere if we don’t take action and put in the work.
When we lose a purpose for our passion, we may give up. Success only comes to people who are relentless.
5 Action Steps to Achieve Your Goals
You may ask yourself, how do I achieve my dreams?
These 5 action steps are merely suggestions and not a guarantee of success if you do them. There is no magic formula for achieving our dreams. It’s mostly work - a lot of work.
Find the Purpose for Your Passion
Creating a list of reasons you would like to achieve your dreams and goals can be a good starting point.
When you have a list, you can use that to find the purpose of your goals.
Create a Routine and Schedule
One way to help ourselves work towards our goals is to create a weekly schedule.
We can break our days up into 3 blocks of time: morning, afternoon, and evening. If we allow for flexible scheduling, we may be more likely to stick with a task.
I created an organizational system and FREE visual schedule printable called Getting Organized Autistic Style that can help you organize your days and time better to work towards your goals.
When working towards our dreams, it can be very important to stay organized.
Learn to Self-Validate
When we read books about following our dreams, we see the cliche repeated of “believe in yourself.” Which is great, but it’s not that simple.
When working towards our dreams and goals, we can encounter obstacles, opposition, and self-doubt. Learning how to self-validate and not rely on external sources for validation can be incredibly important towards keeping us resilient.
When we have an unshakable belief in our abilities to make our goals happen, we can get a lot further than people who doubt themselves.
Sometimes we are trapped behind the gates of our own fear, and we can be the only ones standing in our way.
Be Prepared to Work Hard and Work Smart
When going after our dreams and goals, we must be prepared to work hard - and work a lot.
We can be pushed harder than we ever have in our lives, and it’s important that we are prepared to keep going.
It’s also important for us to be smart about how we spend our time. Sometimes us autistic people can take something complex and find the most efficient ways to do things. This ability can sometimes be a necessary advantage when working smart.
Finding the purpose of our passion can be a significant motivating factor when we are spending hours relentlessly working towards our goals and dreams.
Create Balance to Avoid Burnout
It can be very important to take time to rest. No one can operate at 100% every day for long periods of time without burning out.
The blessing and curse of being driven to accomplish our goals is sometimes we can have a desire to work nonstop.
We can make significant achievements when we regularly invest a lot of time and effort into our goals. The only drawback of this unshakable motivation is we can cause ourselves to burn out.
Preventing burnout could be something simple, like taking at least one day off during the week to do something we enjoy.
Perseverance, resilience, and resourcefulness are all characteristics we need to achieve our dreams. If we create a balance to avoid burnout, we may be more likely to reach our goals.
Inspiring Quotes to Achieve Your Goals
Many people have said inspiring words about following your dreams - some of them have become well known cliches. Here are a few quotes to inspire you:
“As my sufferings mounted, I soon realized that there were two ways in which I could respond to my situation - either to react with bitterness or seek to transform the suffering into a creative force. I decided to follow the latter course.” -Martin Luther King Jr
“Whatever you do, you need courage. Whatever course you decide upon, there is always someone to tell you that you are wrong. There are always difficulties arising that tempt you to believe your critics are right. To map out a course of action and follow it to an end requires some of the same courage a soldier needs. Peace has its victories, but it takes brave men and women to win them.” - Ralph Waldo Emerson
